SIGMA/W is a powerful finite element software product for modeling stress and deformation in earth and structural materials. SIGMA/W analyses may range from simple linear elastic simulations to soil-structure interaction problems with nonlinear material models.
Many constitutive soil models enable you to represent a wide range of soils or structural materials. In addition, SIGMA/W models pore-water pressure generation and dissipation in response to external loads. With SIGMA/W you can analyze almost any stress or deformation problem you will encounter.
New SIGMA/W Formulation
A completely reformulated version of SIGMA/W is available in GeoStudio 2021. The SIGMA/W solver was upgraded to the GeoStudio Solver Engine that was already available in the GeoStudio flow products. This solver has faster performance, better convergence, and multi-physics integration. The new convergence schemes, combined with a new stress-update algorithm, allow for the analysis of material non-linearity that was previously not possible.
Import Functionality Expanded in BUILD3D
Importing features in BUILD3D have been expanded to include the ability to import IGES files. AutoCAD models constructed with curves, surfaces, or solids can be imported directly into BUILD3D in the IGES format. In addition, STL meshes are now imported as background geometry in BUILD3D, allowing for the creation of profiles and swept lines on a construction plane while simultaneously snapping to the background mesh. This approach provides a very fast method to construct simplified, clean models of overly complex, overly sampled, or poorly meshed 3D domains, for example from LIDAR scans or Civil3D meshed surfaces.
GeoStudio’s 3D analysis products include basic 3D construction tools. Users can easily add the full-featured BUILD3D to unlock several additional tools enabling unlimited geometry creation. BUILD3D can be added and used with any existing 3D analysis product license.
