Prediction of CpG islands
Beacon Designer™ predicts CpG islands in accordance with Gardiner-Garden and Frommer guidelines.  load the sequence in Beacon Designer™ and the program will automatically predict these regions. You can also specify the CpG regions manually in a sequence. The CpG islands are displayed in green in the Sequence view tab and the regions that are rich in GC are displayed in red.

The DNA sample is first treated with sodium bisulphite which converts the unmethylated cytosine bases to . The methylated cytosines on the other hand, remain unaffected. Methyl Specific primers are designed to anneal with bisulphite converted DNA. This sample is amplified by PCR replacing the  with thymine. A TaqMan® probe is then used to detect the methylated strand.
